Family Tree Planning and Project Process

Project Roadmap

Planning a family tree project involves several key decisions. We will walk through each step together during your free, no-obligation consultation!

  1. Number of People: Consider how much family information you want to display. How much information do you have, and how much do you want to display in this project?

  2. Format: Once you know how many people you want in your tree, consider the format/ arrangement you’d like to display them in. Do you want to see them in a ring or a half-ring? Or do you prefer the landscape or waterfall approach?

  3. Design: Once you know the number of people and the format, you can select a design. If you need a quick visual of what one of the designs would look like in a different color, I can mock something up.

  4. Additional elements: Once you have picked your format, design, and color scheme, you can decide whether to include a title, such as a family photo or family name title (e.g., “Paffe-Baldwin Family” or “Adams Family "). You can also decide how your family names will be displayed.

  5. Mat or border: Then, you will decide if you want the finished design to fill the space in the frame or if you want to leave room for a mat. You can add a physical mat, or I can include a colored border in the design.

  6. Dimensions: These decisions will help us decide if your project's best size and shape is a square or a rectangle.

  7. Deliverable: Finally, consider what you’d like for the final product. Do you want a digital file only, a print you can take to a framer and choose the frame yourself, or a framed print?

  8. Pricing: We’ll agree on your project's final scope and fee. Accepted payment methods are Stripe standard methods and Venmo.

  9. Approval to Begin: I’ll send a written recap of your decisions, and you’ll sign off on the project scope and provide a $100 deposit to begin the project. You’ll provide your family information at this time.

  10. Approval of work: once a draft is ready, I’ll send you a digital proof of your tree artwork to approve. Two rounds of changes are included. Once you’re happy with the tree, you’ll approve the work. The fee balance will be due at that time.

  11. Delivery: After approval and payment are received, your tree will be delivered!

  12. Feedback: If you enjoyed your experience and your final tree, I would greatly appreciate a positive review (or a recommendation to your friends!)
